Illusions in Vilnius

Sometimes we are kind of forced to visit a city because we have some appointments and sometimes the appointments time might be changed many times. Yes, it seems to happen a lot to us lately. So, you can either sit around waiting or use the time to make 8000 steps (the recommended amount per day), make some unexpected visits and maybe spend time visiting some places that you had the idea to go to, but not the time.

This time we decided to visit a small basement in Vilnius (now we are stuck in Lithuania). As you might know I am Lithuanian and to visit all of the touristy places in the capital might be fun sometimes with friends while they are on a visit to Lithuania, but occasionally I would like to see something new by myself too. So John and I went to one small but interesting museum and it was the first time for both of us (which is nice!).

If you are in Vilnius then maybe you should add Vilnius Museum of Illusions (Iliuzijų muziejus) to your list of places to visit. It is located in the centre, walking distance from the train/bus station, next to Vilnius town hall and the tourist information center. It is not big, it is not fancy, it is not free (I would say it is a bit pricey), but it is fun, it is interesting, it is existing, it is surprising, it makes you think and enjoy.

The space is full of illusions based on science, optical illusions that mess with your visual perception and confuse your senses. Illusions might be physical, physiological, and cognitive and you can try to explore with your mind and discover the reality (or read the explanation!). Many times you might ask yourself – how, why?

Did we like it? – YES!

It’s just that we would love to have more optical illusions to solve! Who knows maybe if we visit again in the future the museum will be even bigger!!!

You can find the museum of illusions at Vokiečių gatvė, 8 and online at vilnil.lt/en.
